Abia State Cocoa Development and Marketing Board Bill passes Second Reading… Homeland Security Agency Bill, Presentation and First Reading

The Abia State Cocoa Development and Marketing Board Bill, 2024, H.A.B 10, a Bill for a Law to Establish the Abia State Cocoa Development and Marketing Board and for other related matters connected therewith ha s undergone it’s Second Reading in the Abia State House of Assembly.

The Sponsor of the Bill and Deputy Speaker, Rt Hon Augustine Okezie while highlighting on the merits of the Bill said Cocoa singlehandedly contributes over 313 Million dollars annually to Nigeria’s GDP, with the Country as the 6th Largest producer of Cocoa in the world.

Rt Hon Augustine Okezie further said the enactment of the Bill would enhance the diversification of the economy of Abia State, reduce the overdependence on Federal allocation and fast track the Agricultural sector of Abia State and also give impetus to the agricultural revolution of the Governor Alex Otti administration.

The Speaker, Rt Hon Emmanuel Emeruwa in his verdict, committed the Bill to the Joint Committee on Agriculture and that of Trade and Investment to conduct a Public Hearing and report findings for further Legislative tinkering.

Also during Plenary, The Abia State Homeland Security Agency Bill, H.A.B 13, a Bill for a Law to Establish the Abia State Homeland Security Agency to Assist and Support the Federal Law Enforcement Agencies in Maintaining Law and other in Abia State and for other matters connected therwith passed through First Reading.
