Permanent Secretary in Abia State, Ijeoma Aguwa lays father to rest in style

The remains of a frontline politician in Abia State, Late Chief Benedict Azunna Meregini was laid to rest in Eziukwu Okputong Bende Town in Bende Local Government Area of Abia State.

Miri N’Ezoro Oha of Bende as Late Chief Meregini was popularly called was at various times a Councilor in Bende Local Government circa 1975, Transition Committee Chairman of Bende Local Government, State Treasurer of the People’s Democratic Party in 1998 and State Chairman of the Progressive Peoples Alliance, PPA, who during his reign produced a Governor in Abia State in 2007, within less than a year of it’s formation.

The burial ceremony attracted the creme de la creme in the political echelon of Abia State, Captains of Industries, Traditional Rulers and top Civil Servants across Nigeria.

The Clerk/Head of Legislative Service, Abia State House of Assembly, Sir Johnpedro Nnamdi Irokansi PhD in his condolence message described late Chief Benedict Azunna Meregini as a political colossus in Abia State’s political configuration whose mentorship groomed many, who have become successful in different strata of society, whose wealth of experience will be sorely missed.

One of the children and the first daughter of the demised, Permanent Secretary in the Abia State Civil Service, Mrs Ijeoma Aguwa described the transition of Late Chief Meregini as a huge loss which has created an unclosable lacuna and thanked friends and well-wishers who trooped out en masse to commiserate with the Meregini’s.
